LYNAM
Hard Rock Trio Brings the Edge Back to Rock

Hard rock trio Lynam, hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, released the their newest album Tragic City Symphony in 2009 and hope it does better than Slave To The Machine. That CD ranked number one on the Active Rock and Mainstream Rock independent charts and got them a supporting role with Hinder. They have also supported Godsmack, Puddle Of Mudd, Salvia, and toured on the Warped Tour.
The band is made up of Jacob Lynam (vocals, guitar), David Lynam (drums, vocals) and Mark Lynam (bass, vocals). No, they are not brothers but they can rock.
“It is really the drummers last name and he didn’t want it to be the name of the band,” said Jacob. “I looked at him and said ‘you are the most horrible drummer I’’ve ever played with in my life. If we name the band Lynam, you’ve got no choice but to get better unless you want to drag your family name through the mud.’ And it worked. We called the band Lynam, and it kind of caught on, so we all decided to do like a Ramones thing, and we all took on the last name Lynam.”
“David went from being the most horrible drummer in the world to being one of the best drummers I’ve ever played with,” said Jacob. “So it worked.”
The new album contains twelve new tracks that cover a whole range of feelings and emotions–no doubt what you’d expect from the brothers. Songs like “Is This A Heartbreak,” “Porn Star,” and “Enemy” top the list for CrankIt.
“We really wanted to make a statement this time around” explains Jacob Lynam. “We grew up on everything from Guns N Roses to Nirvana to Green Day. We wanted to make an album where every song is great and has something to say like “Nevermind” and “Appetite For Destruction.” “Tragic City Symphony” does this and delivers that rock edge that has been missing in rock.
The members have different views on what music they like. Jacob loves the 80’s, rock and bluegrass. Mark has a “Steely Dan meets Fleetwood Mac” kind of thing going and David–who knows. One thing is for sure, they have combined those interests into a solid CD that they are pleased with for the fans.
The mastermind behind their success is producer Jason Elgin (Collective Soul, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster). He brought out the best of these guys and has helped produce a solid CD worthy of being in your collection. “We have always thought of Jason as the fourth member of Lynam” states Jacob Lynam. “He always brings out the best in us and shares our vision of what the Lynam sound is.”
These guys also have a fun side to their image too. They are die-hard iPhone users. Or as Jacob puts it, ”We’re one of those bands that literally can’t live without one on the road.” Now, they don’t stay on them religiously, because they do have to jam from time-to-time, but you can probably get in touch with the band via the iPhone.
If you want to follow the band, or see what is up next for them, go and see them on www.myspace.com/lynam or www.lynammusic.com. You can also download the iTunes application on their Myspace if you’d prefer that option or just iPhone them.
